Building an Urban Story
Libbey approached Madhouse to help profile individuals to represent their latest entertaining collection – Urban Story.
The collection focuses around style and functionality for a new generation of hosts. It features dinnerware that is both practical for everyday use and food preparation, as well as beautiful for serving. We sought out people living a lifestyle that aligns with the ethos of the collection, in cities across America, and captured their stories. The final elements – photography, copy, and video – were used for packaging, trade shows, and other Urban Story materials.
Capturing the personalities of our subjects was vital, which meant showing them in their element.
Urban Story is a collection built on authenticity and connecting with how people actually interact with the items in their home – using a studio or staged set was not an option for us. We traveled to eight cities and got to know 15 people for the project. Taking time to find the right space in their home and set up a compelling photograph was just as important to us as getting to know them and crafting their unique story.
Obsessed with Details
Telling a whole story with just one frame means putting people in focus and removing even the tiniest distractions. Each image in this series combines thoughtful set selection, lighting and photo editing to capture a compelling moment.
