Saint Mary’s College of California Viewbook

The Brief

At Saint Mary’s, college is more than a degree – it’s a transformative experience. SMC called on Madhouse to write, photograph, and design a viewbook to speak to their unique institutional perspective.

Building on themes established in their earlier Madhouse-produced campaign video, the viewbook explores what it means to find your voice and amplify it with purpose into the world. Student and faculty stories help weave an inclusive narrative of identity, community, empowerment, and opportunity while highlighting SMC’s Lasallian and liberal arts traditions.

Research & Discovery

We used a series of discovery meetings to kickstart the viewbook process. Madhouse spent a few days on the SMC campus to get to know the people, campus culture, and Bay Area community that sets them apart. Meeting with key stakeholders helped identify opportunities and pain points within the admissions process, which served as a jumping off point for the viewbook copywriting and greater brand narrative.

Photography & Design

The design and photo direction takes Saint Mary’s existing brand in a more bold, graphic direction. Layered typographic statements and symmetrical layouts, paired with candid photography, creates the essence of a lively, authentic campus experience.
